Virender Sehwag has been declared fit to play for Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League T20 match

Virender Sehwag has been declared fit to play for Delhi Daredevils in the Champions League T20 match starting on Tuesday in South Africa, and he could miss just the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR).

The explosive opening batsman, who handed over Daredevils' captaincy to Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene for the 14- team tournament, will leave for Johannesburg in a couple of days, sources said on Sunday.

Sehwag, 33, will, however, undergo another assessment on his left troublesome ankle on reaching South Africa. He injured his ankle while celebrating the dismissal of South Africa's Jacques Kallis' in the crucial World T20 match.

" There's no problem with Sehwag's MRI; it showed no concerning results. He is fit enough to go with the team. He will leave for South Africa in a couple of days," the source told M AIL T ODAY . " He will have another assessment by the Daredevils' support staff in South Africa, though it's not exactly a fitness test. At most, he might miss the first match against KKR on Saturday in Centurion." A total of 14 teams will play 29 matches in Centurion, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Before the tournament proper starts on Saturday, six teams will play a fourday qualifying round from Tuesday. England's domestic champs Hampshire Royals, Pakistan's Sialkot Stallions, Auckland Aces from New Zealand are in Pool 1 while Yorkshire Carnegie, the runners- up in England, West Indies' Trinidad & Tobago, and Sri Lankan champs UVA Next are in Pool 2.

In the main tournament, KKR, Titans ( SA), Perth Scorchers (Aust), Daredevils and the qualifying team from Pool 1 are in Group A while Chennai Super Kings, Highveld Lions (SA), Sydney Sixers (Australia), Mumbai Indians, and the qualifying side from Pool 2 are in Group B
